Lipstick at the movies, 1985
When I first thought about this series this was the scene I had in mind. My first post (here) looked at the scene in the 1931 movie dishonoured where Marlene Dietrich - about to be shot by firing squad for being a spy - applies her lipstick and serenely waits for the drum roll indicating her execution is imminent.
For this character the act of applying lip stick is of defiance - of a gallant death. For Molly Ringwald's character Claire in The Breakfast Club the act of applying lipstick is her special talent.

I have tried - and failed - to do this MANY times. I used to end up with a lot of "heather shimmer" on my chin.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I had totally forgotten about that scene! It's a classic. I'm really enjoying this series.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried this but may have a go later :)
